Maria is an independent Certified Legal Nurse Consultant with expertise in Nursing Informatics.
Informatics is an interdisciplinary approach in health care dealing with conversion from paper to computerized patient care documentation [Electronic Medical Record/EMR] or change from one EMR to a new one, development of processes and development of methods and systems for more effective decision-making among health care providers for more efficient patient care delivery.
Informatics nurses can have multiple or different backgrounds. They can work as analysts customizing and evaluating EMR use and caregiver workflows, write and execute EMR and other systems test plans, and strategize upgrades with management personnel.
Having worked as a Registered Nurse for 30+ years in hospital patient care and healthcare IT, she’s merged her skills in and passion for nursing, training and computers to implementing the electronic health care record.

Mentoring nurses contributed to Maria’s teaching and training skills development. Maria has worked in electronic documentation from classroom trainer to implementing the EMR in metropolitan health care systems. The latter included consulting with nursing leadership, just-in-time and formal classroom training for a variety of healthcare personnel, on-site go-live assistance and customizing parts of the EMR document their care of the patient.
